CV        Peter Jackson Crellin

Peter Crellin has practised as a management consultant since 1985 He has worked with chief executives, helping them to:

  • Develop high-performance corporate cultures.
  • Optimise the performance of their management teams.
  • Develop their strategic plans and
  • Improve their overall performance.

Peter’s career can be divided into four phases.

He went to sea as a midshipman at age 17 and qualified as a Master Mariner 9 years later. Born in the Isle of Man, Peter immigrated to New Zealand as a deck officer with the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand in 1962.

Phase two – the corporate phase - saw Peter join the insurance industry as a salesman. Five years later he was Managing Director of insurance broking company, John Dee Ltd. He joined the board of Capital Life Assurance Ltd in 1974 and was promoted to Managing Director in 1977.   This made him one of the youngest chief executives of any listed company at the time. During this period Peter attained the New Zealand Diploma in Life Assurance.

Phase three was the entrepreneurial phase. All told, Peter has been involved with nine business start-ups since 1970.   In all but one of these companies, Peter was a founding director and shareholder. In the early cases, Peter was the company’s first manager. Probably the best known of these were Capital Life and Spicers Portfolio Management Ltd (Currently owned by AXA).

Phase four – the consulting phase. Initially Peter operated on his own account. Then in 2004 he teamed up with Geoff Honey under the brand name Performance Edge. As a consultant, Peter has advised a wide range of organisations from banks to manufacturers, from not-for-profit organisations to international companies (refer to client list for full details).

Peter’s consulting activities fall into three areas: - Strategic Planning, Organisation Development and Business Performance Coaching.

In later years, Peter has run training programmes using his own and other suppliers’ materials to help companies to excel in their chosen fields.

Peter is an Associate of Human Synergistics, an internationally renowned consultancy which pioneered teamwork (synergy) and 360o feedback in the 70’s.   As a chief executive in the early 80’s, Peter was one of the first in New Zealand to effectively use Human Synergistics techniques to achieve spectacular results for himself and his own companies.   Now he helps others to do the same.

Throughout his business career, Peter has had a number of outside interests including:
